Greenlawn Memorial Gardens offers a serene, natural landscape for the interment of your loved ones. Situated on 45 acres of pristine, pastoral land in Upper Lafayette, Greenlawn is best known for its beautiful, registered oak trees and gardens. Currently we offer in-ground spaces, above-ground tombs, and mausoleum crypts for both traditional and cremation burials, and is the only cemetery with a dedicated “Infant Rest” section. We are currently in the process of creating an exclusive Veteran’s Section for veterans and their spouses, modeled after Arlington National Cemetery,

In 2011, Gene Walters of Walters Funerals, LLC announced the acquisition of the business from the family of Judge Allen Babineaux after an ownership spanning more than four decades. Walters had a unique interest in the property due to its proximity to Walters Funeral Home, which he opened in 2010 within the same block of North University. Multiple upgrades to the grounds have taken place since then, including new business offices and entrance to the gardens, landscaping, drainage and road improvements, and merchandise offered for purchase.

Veteran's Day Dedication Ceremony

Wednesday, November 11

Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 2300 N. University Ave., Lafayette

Guest speaker: Congressman Charles Boustany

Please join us in the naming and dedication ceremony of Acadiana's exclusive veteran's section, reserved for the interment of honorably discharged United States veterans and their spouses. The section is modeled after Arlington National Cemetery, allowing only for the use of government issued upright, white marble headstones in vertical rows. Once completed, the it will feature a staging pavilion for funeral ceremonies, cremation niches, and fly all five military branch flags. The cemetery’s Distinguished Veteran of the Year recipients will have trees planted in their honor down the center walkway, and be marked with bronze plaques. Future plans include erecting a tower in which “Taps” will be played over loud speakers at sunrise and sunset.

The program will last for approximately one hour. Light refreshments will be served.
